Sammy's HIll
Sammy's Hill - Kristin Gore

Interesting book. Living in Dc the book made a lot of sense to me. Which was the Indian Restaurant that Samantha Joyce had gone to in Adams Morgan. Did she visit the night club Madam's Organ?

You may get so enthralled by the book that you may not notice that it was written by Kristin Gore daughter of Former Vice President Al Gore. Gore has a close association with cpomedy having been associated with comedy shows like "Saturday night Live".

HEr first book is a good effort. I strongly recommend Sammy's Hill for anyone who wants to laugh and enjoy a comedy.

The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini - absolutely fantastic

The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini
Khaled Hosseini is a very talented writer. Listening to the "Kite Runner" in my car during my daily commute made me wish my commute was longer. I would have prayed for more traffic congestion just to be able to listen to this book longer.

Starting from childhood in Kabul the author accurately describes the story setting from the Afghanistan that got subsequently embroiled in misery, infighting and despair.

don't worry if in the middle of the book you stop and wonder what happened to some of the characters from the initial chapters. They appear to haunt both you and Amir "Jan".

The book could have ended when the narrator and his dad settle in San Francisco after the hazing that life gives to all immigrants in the US. They reached the "promised land " didn't they. But there is more - Amir the now happily married successful writer cannot stay away from adventure.

Telling you anything more would be spoiling it for you. A very good read....

Florence of Arabia

One of the first films I remember is the "Lawrence of Arabia" in fact I have seen it 4 times since then. My excitement in reading "Florence of Arabia" turned into amusement. This is a funny book that makes fun of everyone and leaves you in stitches. The author does not spare anyone - US Goverment, The French, and the middle east scenario and creates cartoons from every serious situation.

The World Is Flat: A Brief History of the Twenty-first Century

Very unputdownable book. Describes the globalization of the business. It gave me a insight into the deep strategy that is making jobs spread across the world. The key message I got was that business will go where the cost to produce and service is cheaper. I definitely recommend reading.

Suburban Sahibs

SUBURBAN SAHIBS is a good book. The story is about Indian immigrants who come to America in search of a better life. The case studies that the author Mitra Kalita has done deals with 3 families in Edison NJ.

I am amazed at the accuracy of the author. While the author is of Indian origin she was brought up in the US yet she has done a good job portraying the emotions and the difficulties these families faced. The statistics of Indian immigration and the culture collected in this book is done well.
