Living in Dc the book made a lot of sense to me. Which was the Indian Restaurant that Samantha Joyce had gone to in Adams Morgan. Did she visit the night club Madam's Organ?

You may get so enthralled by the book that you may not notice that it was written by Kristin Gore daughter of Former Vice President Al Gore. Listening to the "Kite Runner" in my car during my daily commute made me wish my commute was longer. I would have prayed for more traffic congestion just to be able to listen to this book longer.

Starting from childhood in Kabul the author accurately describes the story setting from the Afghanistan that got subsequently embroiled in misery, infighting and despair.

don't worry if in the middle of the book you stop and wonder what happened to some of the characters from the initial chapters. They appear to haunt both you and Amir "Jan".

The book could have ended when the narrator and his dad settle in San Francisco after the hazing that life gives to all immigrants in the US. They reached the "promised land " didn't they. But there is more - Amir the now happily married successful writer cannot stay away from adventure.

Telling you anything more would be spoiling it for you. A very good read....
<!--

The story is about Indian immigrants who come to America in search of a better life. The case studies that the author Mitra Kalita has done deals with 3 families in Edison NJ.

I am amazed at the accuracy of the author. While the author is of Indian origin she was brought up in the US yet she has done a good job portraying the emotions and the difficulties these families faced. The statistics of Indian immigration and the culture collected in this book is done well.
<!--

I alternate between serious career growth stuff and fiction. Again I must praise both Montgomery County Libraries and Fairfax County libraries for their excellent collection of Books on Tape and CD.

I discovered Brian Tracy with the book "21 Success Secrets of Self-Made Millionaires". Its a good book and a lot of common sense tasks for today's managers.

Next I read his book Get Paid More and Promoted Faster which I can assure you works. It helped me tremendously in my work. I no longer felt guilty for spending more time thinking about work. I did what I had to do to get the job done. I got promoted faster and I am happy even if I joke with friends that I had read only the later half of the book "Promoted Faster" and was hoping to read the first part and "Get Paid More". (That's just a joke)

Listening to development books on tape is like going to a university. Listening to books while driving also makes you less tense and you learn to tolerate the traffic much better.

I would definitely recommend any of Brian Tracy's books.

Buy Brian Tracy's Books
<!--

I am glad I had put a hold on this book at the Montgomery County library.

I like the character Uncle Seymour who gives away furniture when he hears a sob story. The mystery of Delila. The authenticity of the setting in Rocville a town in Maryland just adjoining DC. I adore the fact that this story is based on my adopted home town Rockville. The Soccer moms and their mini vans ( Honda Odessey) The unexplainable credit card charges. The Fed employee who pays her personal bills with the fed. credit card, it all seems like something that we have all heard before.

I hope I run into Susan Coll one day in Rockville and compliment her on a good book.

If you choose to you can buy the book Rockville Pike here.
<!--

His wife Sunita was expecting and as most expectant mothers need distractions these books were good company for her.

I couldnt wait to get back and borrow "The Mango Season ", "Serving Crazy with Curry" and "A Breath of Fresh Air".
